Lisa Sturz with Red Herring Puppets offers a series of professional workshops in puppet fabrication and manipulation.
Master Puppeteer Lisa Sturz been building and performing puppets for over 50 years. She has worked in the Jim Henson Creature Shop, the Ice Capades, NBC, Lucasfilm, Disney Imagineering and many more. She has created large puppet figures for he Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Atlanta Opera. Film credits include Muppets in Space, Elmo in Grouchland, The Flintstones, Ninja Turtles III, RoboCopII, Howard the Duck, andBatman Returns.
MANIPULATION PUPPETS ON CAMERA
Performing puppets for recorded media requires a unique set of skills. Lisa Sturz, Emmy award-winning Artistic Director of Red Herring Puppets, has decades of experience performing puppets on camera and training others to succeed.
PART ONE Sunday, April 12 1:00 - 4:00: Participants will use a video monitor to practice finding the center of frame, proper lip synch, eye focus, and keeping a consistent height. We will work with breath, posture, hand movements and vocal characterization to convey emotion.
PART TWO. Sunday, April 19 1:00 - 4:00: We will refine the skills introduced in Part One, add scene work, group improvisations, and choreograph a musical number.
LOCATION: Classes will be held at the Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre, 738 N 5th Ave. #131
PART ONE or similar experience is a Pre-Requisite for PART TWO
Bring your own hand and rod (Muppet style) puppet or borrow one of several that will be provided.
COST: $150 for each 3-hour session or $250 for both. Part Two requires PART ONE or previous experience performing puppets on camera. For more information, contact Lisa
