The Lyric Opera of Chicago presents
THE RING OF THE NIBELUNG
by Richard Wagner

" The representation of the giant FAFNER as dragon satisfies even the wildest expectations..."
THE NEW YORK TIMES OPERA REVIEW

The dragon fights a losing battle with SIEGFRIED (Siegfried Jerusalem). The 20' dragon is manipulated by 16 puppeteers.
Conducted by Zubin Mehta
Directed by August Everding
Sets and Costume by John Conklin
Puppetmaster, Lisa Aimee Sturz
" 'Well, what about the dragon?' asked a friend the day after the January 24 opening of LYRIC OPERA OF CHICAGO's Siegfried. 'If the dragon isn't any good, I'm not going.' Fortunately, I could assure him that the dragon was very good indeed........ Lyric's FAFNER, the creation of puppetmaster Lisa Aimee Sturz, is a giant reptilian skeleton requiring some 16 black-clad acrobats to manipulate its vertebrae and massive fanged jaws and head. "

William Shackelford, Opera Magazine (UK)

Lisa conceived of this dragon which represents ALBERICH's magical transformation through the tarnhelm that his brother fashioned from the Rheinmaiden's gold. Magical shapes appear and transform as preludes to the full dragon.

OPERA GEMS........"The silhouetted figures, glowing as they danced against a black backdrop, suddenly became a cartoon dragon and jumping frog during Alberich's magical transformations in "Das Rheingold" "

WYNNE DELACOMA....Chicago Sun

Lisa created and staged the movements for the woodbird who inspires SIegfried to understand and pursue his destiny. Here the woodbird gives Siegfrien a small kiss suggesting he find Brunhilde.
