Pictures at an Exhibition
Red Herring Puppets has designed an original shadow puppet play to
accompany Ravel's orchestral arrangement of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an
Exhibition. The result is stunning, animated, visual poetry that enhances
the delicate and powerful musical score. The moving images resonate with
the documented works of Victor Hartmann, whose sketches inspired Mussorgsky's
composition.
Through a modern adaptation of traditional shadow puppetry, we use scrolling backgrounds drawn onto acetate transparencies and we manipulate opaque, jointed figures on overhead projectors. The piece requires minimal technical capabilities and is suited for large audiences.
Red Herring Puppets can perform Pictures at an Exhibition with any symphony. To find out more, click here.
